About this compilation CD:

"Don't Look Before You Sing" is Ellen's fifth CD, an eclectic compilation of Ellen’s latest jazz compositions, with forays into country western, chanson triste, tango and electronica. Among Ellen's co-writers this time around are Mike Horsfall, Michele Farrell, Scott Parker, Michael Ronkin and Edwige Gbadamassi.

The tunes are sung by Rebecca Kilgore (on four tracks!), Tom Grant (vocal and piano), Marilyn Keller, Amandah Jantzen, Patrick Scofield and Ellen herself, with spoken words by Bill Michtom.

Also featured are a score of talented Portland musicians: Phil Baker, Dan Balmer, Mike Horsfall, Harley James, James Mason, Neil Masson, Paul Mazzio, Reinhardt Melz, George Mitchell, Tony Pacini, Dan Presley, Eli Reisman, Mike Snyder, John Standefer, Ron Steen, Dick Titterington, Courtney Von Drehle and Lee Wuthenow, with a cameo appearance by the Jean Ronne Quartet.

Two award-winning songs are featured on this CD. The chanson triste, "Après L'Amour," rendered by Rebecca Kilgore in impeccable French, was awarded Best Song in the Blues/Jazz/R&B category of the Portland Songwriters Association 2003 International Song Contest. "The Probability of Love," an improbable celebration of quantum physics, took second place in the same category of the 2001 PSA contest.
